Julian Rad, an Austrian wildlife photographer, presents some of the cutest wild animal photos you’ve ever seen, including squirrels, hamsters, and foxes. I recently discovered this professional photographer on Instagram and was immediately smitten by his lovely animals and amusing photos. With his photograph of a sprinting hamster named “Rush hour,” he received the prestigious Comedy Wildlife Photography Award in 2015.
We watch nature shows about the big five while neglecting the everyday struggles and lives of the little creatures with which we share our surroundings. Especially with a fast and timid animal like a mouse, getting precisely the right time with a wild subject is a simple feat – but Julian has done it well.
Each of his photos tells a narrative and provokes emotions, whether it’s a ground squirrel sniffing a flower, a hamster crawling up a blackberry branch, or a red squirrel attempting to reach for a walnut. Julian appears to be willing to wait thousands of hours for the ideal image, which has always interested me about wildlife photographers.
