According to a study published in the International of Food Biology, this is due to a bacterium found in rice called Bacillus cereus. According to research, the latter would not withstand the heat of the microwave. It can produce toxic spores that are resistant to high temperatures. The multiplication of these spores thus leads to intoxication which results in diarrhea and vomiting.

For eggs, the situation is quite specific. To tell the truth, in this case, it is not contamination but a reaction of the eggs. Indeed, a study published in 2017 in the Journal Science Daily showed that when you heat an egg in the microwave, it begins to swell under the effect of radiation. Result? The egg can then explode. Thus, the projections can lead to serious burns and the combustion can even reach a sound level as high as the noise of an aircraft starting, that is, between 86 and 133 decibels.
