When Karen Marie Taylor photographed six newborn girls dressed up as Disney princesses in 2017, the Californian photographer had no idea that her bizarre images would be viewed by millions. Taylor, who worked as a maternity nurse before becoming ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ. And a newborn photographer 12 years ago, says she loves all things Disney.
The idea of creating intricate backdrops and props and princess-like infant outfits stem from her love of the brand. We have generations of great family memories at Disneyland, Taylor said. I have seen all the movies and believe in miracles. I really enjoy doing creative projects like this. Taylor described the time when her first set of Disney newborn photos went viral as a whirlwind.
A year later, Taylor contacted the family of her original princesses, asking to make a set. First birthday photo – including a cake. With her original being Ariel, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Jasmine, Belle and Cinderella. The second photo shoot shows the sweet toddlers with crooked smiles and ruffled hair, a year older and as adorable as ever dressed as their princesses. All the parents are so excited to come back and do the smashing,” said Taylor.
It was fun to see toddlers running around with curiosity and excitement – and there was cake at it everywhere. Since the photo shoot went viral, Taylor has photographed babies as princess Leia, Peter Pan character, and more. But the princess shot captured that magic. Amanda Ballard sent photos of her newborn niece, Willow, to Taylor last summer, after seeing a Facebook post from Belly Beautiful Portraits, Taylor’s photography studio, asking the babies to do princess models.
A few weeks later, she received an email saying that Willow had been cast to play Snow White. I had to tell my sister Willow had a reservation and was busy that day, Ballard said. We don’t know what the shoot will entail or how amazing the photos will turn out, but now we will have these great memories forever and when Willow is older we can tell her that she is a Disney Princess.
