While the fashionistas set foot on the starting block ready to tread the macadam as soon as Fashion Week kicked off, a pair of shoes caught their attention. And it is as worthy heirs of the Derbies and the Richelieu, that the moccasins finally pull out of the game.

Iconic shoes were stolen from men, whose beginnings date back more than 5,500 years. But whether their origins are lent to the Amerindian people of the Algonquins, or to the Armenians, moccasins retain an old-fashioned charm of their own. And although in their early days these flat shoes, devoid of laces, symbolize belonging to a community, they now claim to be worn at the feet of the fashionists who run the parades but not only.

Moccasins: the shoe trend that will make its return to school

Flashback in 1926, Wildsmith Shoes, an English bootmaker placed a special order for a certain Georges V to design an indoor shoe, at the height of royal elegance. From then on, the fashion of the moccasin is resumed and gives its name to the famous Wildsmith Loafer. His DNA? A support sole, and a resistant leather that dresses it from head to toe. And it took no less for students to follow in the footsteps of the shoe trend, adding a penny piece under the breastplate of their moccasins. From then on, the Penny Loafer was born.

This was followed by the 1930s, during which Norwegian bootmaker Nils Gregoriusson Tveranger launched his own version of moccasins inspired by the shoes worn by the Iroquois. Two decades later, tasseled moccasins appeared, as did bit moccasins under Gucci’s leadership. Enough to compete with the Derbies and Richelieu who were until then popular. In 1960, it was the turn of the pimple moccasin to make its entrance on the scene, standing out by a notched sole to prevent the foot from slipping on the pedals.

How to wear moccasins?

With jeans as a priority, to play the card of the safe bet. But for avid fashion admirers, it is recommended to get off the beaten track by pairing moccasins with a slightly loose tailor. All this, proudly letting the end of the shirt and its sleeves protrude, for maximum effect. As for jackets and long coats, they are certainly the best allies of moccasins, since they emphasize their worldly aspect. Thus, in broad strokes, we think of the undisputed trench coat, the Saharan oversized, but also the famous caban. Whoever it is, the ball is in your court.
